aesthetic dentistry

the initial consultation

Your dentist must fully understand your needs and wants, and the knowledge of the issues involving your teeth, mouth and face. In order to do so, a full cosmetic consultation is the most vital part of achieving a new and beautiful smile.

A consultation for your smile makeover will include;

  • A full detailed examination.
  • X-rays of the teeth.

These are essential for an accurate and thorough diagnosis.

  • Impressions / study models.
  • Pictures of your teeth, mouth and face.

These are essential so all your treatment options are properly identified.

  • A detailed treatment plan.

This is essential because having a properly detailed treatment plan enables you to fully understand the treatment options proposed and the costs involved.

The treatment plan will be created within one to two weeks from the initial full consultation and a review consultation can then be arranged with your dentist to discuss the plan. This will allow you to fully understand your treatment options.

An important question for busy people is 'how long will the treatment take?'

This will depend on the number of teeth being treated, and the type of treatment you require. For example, if you are having multiple porcelain veneers it could take between 3 and 4 visits over 2 to 4 weeks. This is another reason why it is so important to plan the treatment very carefully.

Bear in mind that there are two rules we always follow.

Rule #1: Achieve the appearance the patient wants
Rule #2: Use the most conservative means to achieve rule #1

Rule #2 is very important. The more tooth structure that is preserved, the greater the chance your teeth will survive for your whole life.

Refer to our smilemakeover guide and checklist to help you prepare for your consultation.
